Castlegar man facing theft and fraud charges

Charges related to thefts from unlocked vehicles

A 41-year-old Castlegar man has been charged with theft, fraud and possession of stolen property related to a series of thefts from vehicles in March and April 2020.

According to RCMP Sgt. Monty Taylor, local police responded to an increase in thefts from unlocked motor vehicles last spring.

“Investigators determined that often these crimes also involved a fraud component, where the suspect used credit cards, which had allegedly been stolen during these reported thefts,” said Taylor.

A suspect was identified and the investigation was turned over to the BC Prosecution Service, who has now approved charges.

Kristian Erb has been arrested and charged with four counts of theft of a credit card, four counts of fraudulently using a credit card and two counts of possessing stolen property under $5,000.

Erb was released from custody to appear in Castlegar Provincial Court on Feb. 10.
