Council has decided to move forward with a bylaw that will allow pet grooming as a home occupation. The bylaw is in response to several inquiries from residents who wish to operate grooming services in their homes.
When the bylaw first came before council a few weeks ago, it allowed for a maximum of two animals on the premises at any time. Several councillors thought the limit was too restrictive and the bylaw was sent back to committee.
The new version allows for three animals at a time.
Restrictions include that pet grooming businesses can only be located in one-family dwellings and they may not operate as a daycare or kennel.
Business award sponsorship
The City of Castlegar is spending $250 to sponsor the Life Time Achievement Award at the Castlegar Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards Gala. The city has sponsored the award for the past three years.
The money will come from the grants budget which still has $5200 remaining for 2018.
CDCSS grant
Castlegar and District Community Services Society will be receiving $500 to assist with the costs associated with hosting concerts at the Castlegar Library Amphitheatre.
The concerts are free and will include a professional band and solo artist who will include youth artists to join on stage. Youth will also be part of the planning, marketing and promotion of the project.
Licenses and permits
Business licences are up year-to-date by 24 for a total of 586.
Building permit numbers are down slightly for the year, but the dollar value of those permits is up by almost half a million dollars. Major projects started in April include three single-family dwellings and a commercial addition.
