A Castlegar woman was killed in an ATV accident on Saturday.
Nicole Anne Rodrigues, 32, was out ATVing on the Gladstone Forest Service Road on Saturday, approximately 40 km from Castlegar. She lost control of the vehicle and went down an eight-meter embankment, ending up pinned underneath the ATV.
When Rodriguez didn’t meet up with a fellow rider as planned, he started searching for her, but she wasn’t found until the next morning and was deceased.
Castlegar Search and Rescue (CSAR) was called in to retrieve her body.
“We were dispatched to do a body recovery up in the Gladstone Creek area,” explained Gord Ihlen of CSAR. Retrieval had to be made using a helicopter. “Access was difficult, extreme four-wheel drive for most places that’s why we chose to go by air instead of by land.”
The BC Coroners Service and Castlegar RCMP continue to investigate the incident.
