Three heritage buildings in Nelson are set to receive renovation funding from Columbia Basin Trust.
Touchstones Nelson will be granted $200,000 to repoint the stone and brick mortar joints as well as restore the building’s exterior windows.
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch meanwhile will be handed $80,000 to update its fire suppression system, while $20,000 is also being given to the Nelson CARES to plan for heritage restoration and preservation of its Vernon Street location.
The projects are three of 14 funded a total of $1.2 million, which was announced by the Trust on Wednesday. It’s the second intake of the $6.15-million, three-year Built Heritage Grants.
Other projects include:
• The JB Fletcher Store in Ainsworth receives $300,000 for stablization and restoration.
• New Denver’s Knox Hall gets $210,694 for upgrades.
• Queens Bay’s St-Francis-in-the-Woods church is granted $15,000 for conservation of the exterior cladding.
• The Silverton Gallery will install storm windows for $5,000.
• Slocan Legion Hall is handed $174,500 to preserve the building’s structure, improve its envelope and update it to meet safety requirements.
