CCRD Minutes in a Minute for February 2017

The first regularly scheduled CCRD board of directors meeting was held on February 9 in Bella Coola.

The first regularly scheduled CCRD board of directors meeting was held on February 9 in Bella Coola. The next meeting will be held on Thursday March 9, 2017. As always, the public are welcome to attend.

A presentation from the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association (CCCTA) provided background information on the organization’s efforts to bring the Municipal and Regional District Tax (MRDT) to the tourism marketing region, which encompasses all communities in the Central Coast Regional District.

The MRDT will be structured such that there will be a dedicated board formed to discuss the details of how, when and where the money is distributed.  Board membership will be formed via annual local elections through the participants, therefore only accommodators collecting the tax would be eligible to vote. The CCRD will be providing a letter in support of the introduction of the MRDT in the CCCTA tourism region.

The Draft copy of the CCRD Governance and Service Delivery Study was received by the board of directors. A full administration report has been requested for the April board meeting, including comments from the Ministry of Community, Sport, and Cultural Development.

Additional highlights from the February board meeting include the following: the Bella Coola Community Support Society, Denny Island Community Development Association, Discovery Coast Music Festival, and the Bella Coola Valley Ridge Riders were awarded CCRD Grant-in-Aid funds. For a complete list of recipients please visit www.ccrd-bc.ca.

The financial report indicated that the 2.37% increase to the tax requisition are insufficient to support future asset replacement.  This relates to all services and functions of the regional district.

A wildfire event east of Denny Island was responded to by the BC Wildfire Service with support of the Bella Bella Fire Department and the RCMP.

Did You Know that the CCRD records regularly scheduled board meetings and makes the recordings available on our website via Soundcloud for a period of 3 months?  Visit www.ccrd-bc.ca homepage to discover the link.
