Rick Hansen’s Man in Motion World Tour is celebrating 25 years, and a re-creation of the Canadian portion of his incredible journey, is in the beginning stages.

The 25th Anniversary Relay starts on Aug. 24, 2011 in Cape Spear, Newfoundland and crosses Canada through more than 600 communities covering 12,000 kilometres, and ending in Vancouver on May 22, 2012.

The Rick Hansen Foundation is looking for Canadians from across the nation to enter a contest for an opportunity to participate in the relay in their community. The relay will be in the South Cariboo March 27-28, 2012, travelling from Lac la Hache to Clinton, with a stop over in 100 Mile House. A map and list of communities the relay will pass through is available online at RickHansenRelay.com.

The contest criterion is broad and is open to: individuals who are creating a more accessible and inclusive world; leading and encouraging others to live a healthy and active lifestyle; or people who are contributing to the protection and sustainability of the environment.

While Hansen will not be wheeling across the entire country as he did 25 years ago, he will be present at a number of stops throughout the country during the nine-month relay.

As the relay follows the route laid down by him, the singular Rick Hansen Medal will be passed from participant to participant, linking the country and the cause. The medal bearers will run, walk, wheel or bike across the country. Every medal-bearer will receive their own medal to remember the way in which they added to the momentum of the 25th Anniversary Relay.
