Hundreds of people participated in Mission’s Culture Days celebration this year.
“It was great to see partnerships built,” said Kat Wahamaa, chair of Mission Cultural Resources Commission (MCRC) which organized the events.
The celebration started Friday with a demonstration from local musician and dancer Boris Sichon at the library.
The Mission City Farmers Market and Mission Community Archives also partnered with the MCRC to promote culture in Mission on Saturday, and everyone was invited to Spirit Square at Jack Poole Harbourside Park on the waterfront on Sunday to celebrate BC RiverĀ Day.
“Next year we hope to expand participation,” said Wahamaa.
Live entertainment, activities for children, and interactive displays were set up throughout. Guest speakers David Hancock and John Vissers spoke about the upcoming Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival and the importance of water, respectively. Xa:ytem Longhouse Interpretive Centre was opened for tours on Sunday.
Local artists, including Hatzic wood carver Randy Hayes, also opened up their studios and welcomed visitors through their doors.
“We want to keep building partnerships and building community,” said Wahamaa.
