Mark your calendars, start doing your snow dance and get ready for Griz Days 2020.
Fernie’s 43rd celebration of Griz Days will take place March 6 to 8 this year and is meant to “celebrate our historical love for winter and mountains,” according to the Fernie Chamber of Commerce.
This year, the festival aims to build community spirit and civic pride by keeping with the Fernie tradition of “winter fun and frolic.” On the Saturday, festival events will be concentrated in town, while Sunday events will be held at Fernie Alpine Resort. This includes the iconic Dummy Downhill event.
The idea behind concentrating Saturday’s events in town is that people will be able to easily walk between the events and enjoy as much of Griz Days as possible.
The Extreme Griz Competition will be held in Rotary Park and at the Park Place Lodge but this year, the crowning of the Extreme Griz will be a little different. The final test in the competition will take place at Station Square and the winners will be announced on Stations Stage.
Make sure to also catch the plethora of other activities happening on main street, including musical presentations, a theatre presentation, and the Junior Griz training ground.
As always, these events will lead into the ever-popular Lumberjack show, live music and fireworks throughout the rest of the evening.
The Fernie Chamber of Commerce and festival organizers are also looking for community partners to join in the planning of the event. For more information about Griz Days 2020 or to inquire about festival events, contact Lori Bradish at lori@elkvalley.net or 250.423.8850.
