CLOVERDALE — A celebration of life is planned for Surrey teen Travis Selje who died after a crash in Cloverdale on May 3.
The crash happened near the intersection of 176th Street and 64th Avenue.
Emergency responders had to remove the roof of a vehicle and use the Jaws of Life of the Honda Prelude Travis was driving.
Police are “looking strongly” at impaired driving and speeding as being factors.
In a post to its website, Cloverdale Minor Baseball said the celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, May 17 at 2 p.m. at Cloverdale Baptist Church.
The league’s statement said they are “terribly saddened and heartbroken” and that Travis was “one of the most dynamic and talented players to ever wear a Spurs jersey. He was a fierce competitor but always had a smile and encouraging words for his teammates. He was an incredible leader on and off the field.
“Cloverdale Minor Baseball will always treasure our memories of Travis. We offer our deepest condolences to the Selje family.”
Travis was a member of the Mosquito A Provincial Championship team in 2009, the Mosquito AAA Provincial Championship team in 2010 and the Peewee AAA Provincial and Western Canadian Championship team in 2013.
He was also a soccer player and was part of the Whitecaps FC Residency Program (from 2012 to 2016) and spent years with the Surrey United soccer squad.
