A police officer who is on administrative duties in Central Saanich after being issued a roadside prohibition had a previous suspension, Central Saanich police media liaison officer Cpl. Janis Jean confirmed Wednesday.
The officer was issued a 24-hour suspension in 2009 by the West Shore RCMP which will form a part of the overall investigation, Central Saanich Police said.
The Central Saanich Police Service ordered a Police Act investigation after the officer was issued an immediate roadside prohibition after an impaired investigation by Victoria Police last week.
The officer, who was off-duty at the time, was issued a three-month prohibition and his vehicle was impounded. The office of the Police Complaint’s Commission has been notified and will be monitoring the Police Act investigation. Central Saanich Police will not release the name of the officer, as there are no criminal charges against him.
The officer had been seconded from Central Saanich Police to the Integrated Road Safety Unit and is now on administrative duties at the Central Saanich police department.
