The Character Abbotsford Conference, originally set for the fall of 2020, has been postponed until October 2021.
The Character Abbotsford board of directors made the decision on April 6 to delay its fourth conference.
Vijay Manuel, the chair of Character Abbotsford, said the global pandemic created too many issues for organizers and guests.
“We are all disappointed as the upcoming conference was going to be another amazing event.” he stated in a press release.
“This year would have been the first time that we included 300 students from our local high schools to take part. However, the instability in our world due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the resulting measures we all must take to to protect our citizens is the singular reason for postponement.”
Character Abbotsford organizers hope to bring previously confirmed speakers for 2020 to the 2021 event. Some of the speakers that were scheduled for 2020 included Mike Downie (brother of the late Gord Downie of The Tragically Hip) and Eric Brown (a professional diver who helped rescue the Wild Boar Boys soccer team from a Thailand cave in 2018).
