Riot Brewing Co. is continuing its magnificent run during the 2018 award season with a silver at the Canadian Brewing Awards (CBAs) in Halifax, and this time it’s an American-style Porter that’s centre stage.
The annual national competition judges the quality of beer manufactured here in the Great White North and is a widely recognized symbol of brewing excellence.
Riot Brewing Co. won a silver in the Porter category, a style originating in the UK, for its Vortex Robust Porter. The drink is brewed with dark roasted malts that showcases a balanced sweetness with notes of coffee and chocolate.
“We are absolutely blown away. We are still coming off of the high of winning two awards at the World Beer Cup and now a silver for the Vortex Robust Porter at the Canadian Brewing Awards. It’s Crazy. I’m super proud of all of our staff and what they have accomplished,” said Morgan Moreira, co-founder of Riot Brewing Co..
“B.C. breweries are kicking ass right now and we are so stoked to be a part of it.”
It was only a couple months after opening in 2016 that Riot’s Good Vibrations Classical Pilsner also won a silver medal at the 2017 CBAs.
Awards this year were handed out in 55 style categories during the 16th annual ceremony held on May 26 at the Halifax Event Centre in Nova Scotia capital.
Winners were selected from over 170 entries from 333 breweries and cideries from across Canada. Blind tasting is done to determine who creates the best beer and cider in a variety of style categories.
