The Cherry Creek Waterworks District is implementing stage one water restrictions, effective immediately, in order to ensure a safe, sustainable and long-term water supply throughout the dry summer months.
“We’ve noticed a trend over the last few years where there is a decrease in the length of our rainy season and an increase of our dry season,” stated a release from the district.
“Although our lake level is at max at the beginning of spring, we have seen an increase in usage compounded by an increase in evaporation due to the lengthening dry season.”
Even-numbered addresses can water on even-numbered days and odd-numbered addresses can water on odd-numbered calendar days from 6-9 a.m. and 6-9 p.m.
Residents can continue with drip/micro irrigation and hand watering any day to a maximum of two hours—this includes vegetable and food gardens.
Washing vehicles and outdoor surfaces is permitted any day using a hose with a spring-loaded nozzle or watering pail/bucket.
The city of Port Alberni and Beaver Creek are also under stage one water restrictions, as of July 1.
