Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce highlights major developments in video tour

The vid provides the latest info on the Cottonwood Mall, Five Corners and Tzeachten projects

The Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce has produced a short YouTube video that highlights three major developments happening right now.

The 195 second vid starts at Cottonwood Mall where construction continues on a massive new Save-on-Foods. The grocery store will take up 38,000 of the 90,000 square feet that once housed Target, and Jarvis Rouillard, VP of acquisitions and leasing for PCI Developments, said the plan is to have it opened by February.

While Club 16 Fitness and Cora are also expected to open in early 2021, those excited for the new Old Navy will have to wait a while longer.

In the video, Rouillard suggested its doors will open in the second quarter (April-June) of next year.

The video moves on to the Five Corners development in downtown Chilliwack, where Dave Algra of Algra Bros. Developments talks about incorporating history into the project.

“Five Corners was initially created in 1881,” he said. “We’ve re-purposed a lot of material that is from the early, early 1900’s and we’re really excited that the public is going to get an opportunity to finally come down, see some of our new tenants, experience some of the new businesses and see the spaces we’ve built.”

The third stop on the tour is the work happening at the base of Promontory.

Tzeachten First Nation Chief Derek Epp talked about 58 acres of land that will be developed over the next five to 10 years.

That includes a much-anticipated second Shandhar Hut location at the corner of Promontory Road and Chilliwack River Road.

“I’m excited to see this development come through and sort of be Sardis central,” Epp said. “I’m looking forward to the impacts it’ll have, no only for Tzeachten but for the larger community.”
