The second of four people charged for operating a Chilliwack dial-a-dope ring was sentenced to two years in jail in BC Supreme Court Tuesday.

Bryan Leslie Schapansky originally faced 15 charges including 11 counts of trafficking in a controlled substance and four firearms charges all in connection with a covert operation by the RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) that started back in 2014.

The drug dealer pleaded guilty to two of the trafficking charges and two firearms charges. He was sentenced on May 13 to two years jail followed by 12 months probation.

He was first charged back in 2015 along with Jamie Leanne Rogers, Constantinos “Gus” Anthony and Dina Anthony.

Rogers was sentenced on April 26, 2018 to six months in jail followed by 18 months probation with strict conditions.

The investigation began in 2014 with an undercover officer buying small amounts of heroin from Schapansky who was a local drug dealer. Schapansky was asked if he could get large quantities and he said he could, according to Crown counsel Susan Gill during Rogers’ sentencing last year.

He also sold two Tasers to an undercover officer.

In on instance, Schapansky and the officer attended a Nowell Street apartment where Rogers was selling drugs. The officer gave her the $3,400 in cash for an ounce of heroin. She went out to an SUV owned by a known drug dealer, went back inside, and handed over the drugs.

When arrested, she was found in a house in the 9300-block of Nowell Street with a carbine rifle at her feet, in an apartment with cocaine, heroin, crystal meth, and all the tools used in the drug trade such as working scales and baggies.

When Rogers was sentenced last year, Justice Neill Brown admonished her for taking part in the drug crisis that is killing so many people.

Brown called drug dealing “an evil whose reach into our community has been devastating.”

Dina and Gus Anthony have had numerous court appearances over the intervening years since first charged, many involved them pleading financial hardship and an inability to access legal aid.

Their case is, however, finally going to trial in the fall with a pre-trial conference scheduled for Sept. 24.
