Neighbours reported hearing a large explosion at around 10 a.m.
“That was a loud boom, holy!” one said on Yale Road as a Chilliwack firefighter taped off the driveway.
The firefighter was also ordered to evacuate the nearby Uptown Grill on Yale Road.
Fire trucks had Nowell blocked to vehicle traffic between Yale and Princess, and Princess blocked between Nowell and Young Road.
A witness suggested a nearby excavator on site had accidentally brought the wires down leading to the transformer explosion.
