Chilliwack Fire Department investigators believe a blaze that gutted a travel trailer Sunday morning, April 25, may have been deliberately set.
Thirty firefighters from five Chilliwack firehalls were called out at 10:28 a.m. to a homeless camp in the Landing Drive area, which is close to McCammon elementary school and the Hope Rotary Trail Park.
They arrived to find the travel trailer totally engulfed in flames. Access to the site was challenging, but firefighters managed to control and extinguish the blaze. They confirmed the trailer was vacant, and while there were no civilian or firefighter injuries the trailer is considered a total loss.
The Chilliwack Fire Department and RCMP are investigating the cause of the fire, and anyone with information is asked to phone the RCMP at 604-792-4611, call Crimestoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or click online to upperfraservalleycrimestoppers.ca
Firefighters were called out again a few hours later to a house fire in the 9700 block of Corbould Street. This one broke out at 3:34 p.m. with firefighters from five halls responding to a report of smoke in a single-storey house.
Firefighters went into the home, where the fire was burning near the main entrance. It was quickly extinguished leaving minimal fire, smoke and water damage.
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries, and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Chilliwack Fire Department.
