Chilliwack’s smoky skies got a bit smokier Tuesday afternoon after a large outbuilding in Yarrow went up in flames.
Firefighters from multiple halls responded to the fire, which occurred at around 3:30 p.m. at a home on Eckert Street near Yarrow Central Road.
Crews quickly contained the fire, but not before the building was completely gutted.
No one was injured in the fire, and there were no animals in the structure at the time of the blaze.
Traffic along Yarrow Central Road – which runs through the heart of the community – was briefly disrupted.
The fire did little to help the air quality in the area. Wildfires throughout the province had already elevated the Air Quality Index for Chilliwack to 9 late Tuesday, meaning a “high health risk.”
