Chilliwack homeowners sought for the Fall Heritage Home Tour

It's the biggest fundraiser of the year for Chilliwack Heritage Society

Heritage Chilliwack Society reps are preparing for their 2020 Fall Heritage Home Tour to be held this September.

They are seeking homeowners of heritage, character, mid-century modern, cottages, or laneway houses behind heritage homes, to participate and open their homes for the tour.

It does not need to be a “grand” home to be considered, they say, but they need to nail down all the tour sites way in advance, so they start early in the year.

“Our last two home tours were a huge success,” said Krista Butt, Heritage Chilliwack Home Tour coordinator.

Tour participants were thrilled to gain access and view the inside of significant heritage and mid-century homes and buildings throughout Chilliwack.

“Homeowners were proud to showcase their beautifully maintained homes to both locals and out-of-town visitors,” said Butt.”

Proceeds from the tour go into a heritage designation fund to assist heritage homeowners who wish to have their homes designated as such, provide funds for classroom sponsorship program, and support various community projects.

It’s a chance to learn something about the fascinating architectural details and histories of these unique buildings.

As the third oldest municipality in B.C. behind Victoria and New Westminster, Chilliwack’s historic homes are like a snapshot in time.

The event is run entirely by a team of dedicated volunteers. Each home on the tour will be staffed by two to four volunteers. Tickets are capped at 200 participants. To find out more or volunteer for the Fall tour, please contact the society by email: heritagechilliwack@gmail.com.
