Chilliwack-Kent MLA Kelli Paddon is funding three $500 scholarships that will go to students who have demonstrated a commitment to equity and social change.
Paddon is putting up $1,500 of her own money, saying “scholarships and bursaries are investments in our community’s future.”
“I’m so thankful for the support I received from this community when I pursued post-secondary education and that’s why I’m personally funding these three scholarships so young people in Chilliwack can pursue those same opportunities,” she said in a news release. “I can’t wait to see where our students’ dreams take them and how they in turn give back to our community.”

According to the release issued by the NDP caucus, the successful scholarship winner “will be a student who displays citizenship in and out of the school setting, a student who has integrity and empathy, a student who is passionate about making the world a better place by working toward equality for all.”
One of the scholarships will be available to students at G.W. Graham secondary and another will be open to students at Agassiz elementary secondary.
Both of those can be applied for through the school and school administration will select the successful scholar.
The third will be available to any student residing in the Chilliwack-Kent electoral district. Any school can recommend one student for consideration by contacting the constituency office with their pick by April 30, 2020. The constituency office is reachable by phone at 604-858-5299 and by email at Kelli.Paddon.MLA@leg.bc.ca.
The boundary map is online at elections.bc.ca/docs/map/redis17/ED/CHK_ED.pdf and residency can be confirmed by entering a postal code at leg.bc.ca/learn-about-us/members
Paddon said students pursing a wide range of subject matters are encouraged to apply and she looks forward to congratulating the recipients.
