A husband-and-wife musical duo from Chilliwack is hundreds of thousands of dollars richer after winning the top prize from a scratch-and-win lottery ticket.
Roger and Janet Champagne – also known as Champagne Country – won $675,000 from a Set for Life ticket.
Whenever Roger buys a Set for Life ticket, he always hands it over to his wife so she can scratch it.
“When I started to scratch the ticket and saw the symbols, I told Roger, ‘Cash, cash, cash,'” Janet said.
“As soon as I saw it, I said, ‘we are set for life!'” Roger added.
The ticket was bought at the AM/PM Food Mart in Chilliwack on Young Road.
After checking the ticket at home and digesting their win, the Champagnes called family in Ontario, who were at first incredulous and then quickly reminded them to plan a trip out east when it’s safe to do so.
The Champagnes said they will use the money to top-up their retirement and they’re also planning to move back to Ontario to be closer to family.
“It doesn’t feel real yet, it’s unbelievable and really exciting,” Roger said.
“We are trying not to let this go to our heads,” Janet added.
In 2020, BCLC paid out more than $12 million in Set for Life prizes. BCLC offers socially responsible gambling entertainment while generating income to benefit all British Columbians. Remember, play for fun, not to make money. For more information, visit GameSense.com.
