Stealing from money donated to veterans’ causes is about as low as it gets, but that’s what happened before Remembrance Day in Chilliwack.
Mounties are looking to identify suspects responsible for a rash of theft of poppy donation boxes in the days leading up to Nov. 11.
Surveillance video and photos have been obtained from each of four thefts, and the RCMP are looking for the public’s assistance in identifying the persons responsible.
The first incident was on Nov. 4 in the 7500-block of Vedder Road. The person who took the poppy donation box is described as a male with medium complexion wearing orange or red rain poncho.
(See below for photos of suspects.)
Then on Nov. 6 in the 7300-block of Vedder Road, the person who took the poppy box is described as wearing a green jacket and dark pants.
Also on Nov. 6 in the 7600-block of Vedder Road, the person who took the poppy box is described as a white male, wearing a black jacket and a black hat.
And the fourth file, again on Nov. 6 in the 45600-block of Luckakuck Way, the person who took the poppy box is described as a white male, wearing a grey sweater, black pants, red hat and a dark-coloured backpack.
Of note is that the suspect in this latter incident pushed the clerk who tried to stop him from exiting the business.
The thefts are far from the only incidents of this kind as police report a number of thefts of poppy donation boxes from across B.C.
