Students and staff at a Chilliwack school experienced a lockdown procedure Thursday afternoon.
The lockdown, which ran from 12:20 p.m. to about 1:50 p.m. at Vedder middle school, was in response to a report there was a potential threat to the school community.
School administrators sent out a message to parents confirming the lockdown. Some parents have reported that their children were asked to hide under desks, and that some children were crying.
“Please know that the actions today were enacted to ensure that we took all measures to keep our school community safe,” the notice to parents reads. It also says that after a full investigation with the RCMP, that the threat was not substantiated.
Students who need to speak to someone about the incident are invited to go to the counselling centre at the school or to meet with with a staff member. Parents are invited to connect with the school administration.
The Progress has reached out to the Chilliwack RCMP for confirmation of what led to the lockdown.
