Three more Chilliwack train crossings are almost whistle-free.
Council has been working on anti-whistling agreements for train crossings at McGrath Road, Ford Road and Nevin Road in Rosedale for several years.
Council voted to fund the improvements for the three rail crossings in 2015, authorizing the Rosedale Anti-Whistling project for the CN crossings.
CN sent a revised estimate for crossing improvements necessary at Nevin Road to comply with the new Transport Canada Railway Crossing Guidelines that meant an increase of $160,000, for a total of $485,000.
Council voted unanimously for the revised cost.
Anti-whistling agreements go into effect once all the safety criteria and conditions have been met, such as signage, fencing and road markings.
In the past the City of Chilliwack has received grant funding for this work but improvements required to meet standards for anti-whistling at the Rosedale crossings were not eligible for grants. Several other locations are already whistle-free such as Annis Road, Prest Road and Young Road.
