Chinatown eatery receives unexpected guest

Saanich senior reverses car into front of restaurant

Victoria police say it was lucky no one was injured when an 82-year-old Saanich man reversed his car through the front of a restaurant in Victoria’s Chinatown Wednesday night.

Patrol officers responded to the Forum Chinese Seafood Restaurant at 612 Fisgard St. at 7:30 p.m.

He “was trying to park mid-block and instead of hitting the brake when he went backwards, he hit the gas,” said police spokesperson, Const. Mike Russell. “He was trying to park and ended up in the restaurant.”

Russell could not provide an estimate for damages to the building, but said no one was injured in the crash.

“If somebody was sitting there, it wouldn’t have been good,” he said.

An officer had to drive the 1990 BMW out of the restaurant. It was then towed away.

Charges likely won’t be recommended to Crown counsel.

“We’re going to look into it but I don’t think there will be anything that will come out of it,” Russell said.
