The annual Christmas hamper drive, spearheaded by Cowichan Lake Community Services, drew a big continent of volunteers to Centennial Hall Dec. 19.
Hamper-filling day is a fun event that everyone marks on their calendars: a time to greet friends and spend a lively morning with them packing huge amounts of donated food and toys into hampers for the less fortunate.
But, long before that day, many groups, businesses, and individuals have been busy, collecting food, cash donations, and gifts for youngsters at locations all around the Cowichan Lake area.
Many of those involved have been returning for more than two decades to help with the effort, which they consider one of the best ways to celebrate the spirit of the Christmas season.
