The Abbotsford Police Board has issued commendations to two local citizens for their actions in rescuing a man and a woman who were attacked by two dogs.
The separate incidents took place on Lilac Crescent in Abbotsford at about 12:30 p.m. on March 15.
Byron Wiebe was driving when he saw two dogs push a woman to the ground and begin mauling her.
He quickly left his vehicle, and repeatedly kicked the dogs until they let go of the woman and ran off.
Wiebe stayed with the victim until emergency services arrived. The woman suffered several large gashes to her arm which required immediate surgery, as well as puncture wounds to her face and leg that required several stitches.
Soon after, Adam Pampalon was driving along the street when he noticed two aggressive dogs attack a man from behind and bite him on the back of the leg.
Pampalon got out of his vehicle, grabbed a golf club, and charged at the dogs to scare them away.
The victim required five stitches.
The two dogs were later apprehended by animal control.
The commendations recognize Pampalon and Wiebe for their “quick response, courageous actions and willingness to place (themselves) at risk to rescue another.”
Pampalon and Wiebe were formally acknowledged at the monthly meeting of the Abbotsford Police Board on Tuesday.
