The City of Grand Forks is inviting residents to give input on their upcoming budget process as council gets into the swing of the new year.
The Financial Plan Timeline, unveiled at the Committee of the Whole on Dec. 12, outlines the public meeting dates.
Each meeting will have presentations from city staff on their department’s budget, which the public is welcome to sit in on.
The first meeting will be Jan. 16, coinciding with the regularly scheduled council meeting that evening. Projects presented on at the meeting that afternoon will be granted early budget approval at the evening meeting.
More presentations will take place on Jan. 30 and Feb. 6. The early meetings will be focusing on budget presentations, while meetings on Feb. 14 and 27 will be looking at the operating budget requirements and finalizing tax and utility rates.
The 2017-21 Financial Plan Bylaw will be presented at the Committee of the Whole meeting on March 13, and go through first, second and third readings at the regular council meeting on March 27. The plan is set to be adopted at the April 10 meeting of council.
Concurrently, at the April 10 committee of the Whole, the 2017 tax rates bylaw will be presented. The bylaw is set to go to first, second and third readings on April 24, before being adopted at a to be announced special meeting of council in early May.
