After six years with the City of Campbell River, Chief Financial Officer and Director of Finance Myriah Foort will resign in early July to take on a similar role at the Strathcona Regional District.

“While we are sorry to see Ms. Foort leave our organization, we are pleased she will remain in the community,” says Mayor Andy Adams. “We wish her well in her new regional role, and we are confident that her expertise and collaborative style, which served the city so well, will continue to benefit all of the communities that are part of the regional district, including the City of Campbell River.”

“Ms. Foort’s legacy of innovation and improvement includes the city’s award-winning Financial Stability and Resiliency Program, which provides a solid structure for financial planning and services delivery and a 10-year budget outlook with predictable, incremental tax and user fee increases,” adds city manager Deborah Sargent. “Her leadership style has also established a highly-competent finance team, so she’s leaving us well-positioned to continue to build on a strong foundation.”

For her part, Foort says while she is sad to leave City Hall, she is also looking forward to the next chapter in her life.

“It’s certainly tough for me to leave our tight-knit city team and the many opportunities to collaborate and enhance service delivery for our community – particularly through building a financial framework that provides stable service delivery today and for the future,” she says, but adds, “Moving to the regional district provides the opportunity to expand my experience in local government, and provides more balance for my young family.”

The City of Campbell River has begun recruiting to fill the position of chief financial officer and director of finance. In the interim, Ron Bowles, whose previous general manager portfolio with the city included overseeing the finance department, will be acting chief financial officer and director of finance.
