The City of Nanaimo confirmed that the RCMP is investigating an incident that took place at city hall last week.
In a press release issued Monday, the city acknowledges that an incident did take place and someone was arrested. The city also stated that the RCMP Island Division is continuing to investigate the matter.
“We take this incident very seriously. Thanks to the professional response of our staff, we remain confident in the safety of our municipal hall and our ability to provide ongoing services and support to residents and businesses here in Nanaimo,” said Nanaimo Mayor Bill McKay in a press release.
The city did not provide any more information about the incident or details about the arrest.
“The City of Nanaimo has policies and procedures in place to safeguard a respectful and supportive workplace, and to reflect the values and priorities of our residents,” said Coun. Jerry Hong in the release.
Cpl. Tammy Douglas, spokeswoman for the RCMP Island District, told the News Bulletin last week that an arrest was made. According to the RCMP Island Division, the woman was released on conditions with a promise to appear in court. No charges have been laid and police are not releasing the woman’s name.
The press release also states that the city is co-operating fully with the RCMP and that it will also undertake an independent investigation.
