City of Parksville crews have chopped down some hazardous trees on Memorial Avenue.
The elm trees were assessed by an arborist last year and were deemed unhealthy. As they posed an eventual risk to pedestrians and motorists travelling along the road, the city decided to remove them.

The city indicated the removal of the trees was mainly due to their health and not related to any future work planned for Memorial Avenue, where a public square and one-way traffic flow will be established.
The chopped trees will be replaced as soon as it is suitable to do so while the remaining trees will be maintained.
With any salvageable wood, the city plans to co-ordinate with the McMillan Arts Centre and repurpose for art projects.
