While there is routine maintenance going on in Mark’s Nature Park in Parksville, city staff say the park will not be completely cleared like the large adjacent private lot on Highway 19A.
Staff are cleaning up the 2.66 acre wooded park off Finholm Street, including lifting the tree canopy and substantial clearing of brush, according to a city news release.
Similar to work done in Renz Park in May, the efforts are meant “to address public safety concerns and should help to create enhanced security for both residents and park users, attracting more residential pedestrian activity.”
“The city’s intent is to recapture the intended purpose of the nature park.”
The clearing of the adjacent private lot, beside Travelodge, was done by the owner partly to help this effort and address unsightly weeds and invasive species.
Parksville staff are doing similar routine maintenance along the sanitary sewer trunk line along Nerbus Lane to Mill Street near the Englishman estuary.
