City of Parkville notes new process for B.C.’s homeowner grant

Applications to be sent directly to provincial government

The City of Parksville has advised of a new process for British Columbia’s homeowner grant.

Deb Tardiff, manager of communications for the city, said all homeowner grant applications must now be submitted directly to the provincial government through a secure online application and municipalities are no longer able to accept grant applications. The grant still remains available to eligible homeowners who pay property taxes.

The release read the new system helps to ensure homeowners receive their full grant entitlement, including the additional grant for seniors or persons with a disability.

It also helps process applications faster and reduce fraudulent applications.

The province is now accepting current year and retroactive grants online. Homeowners can apply for their

current year, or their retroactive homeowner grants, online at gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant.

It should be noted that while a homeowner can apply for their current year grant, the application will not be processed until taxes are levied in May and will remain in a ‘hold’ status.
