With dry conditions in the South Okanagan a month ahead of normal, the City of Penticton says residents need to be careful about water use with a possible summer drought in the offing.

“The snow pack is at 69 per cent and all low-to-mid elevation melt has occurred, with upper elevation melt beginning now,” said Micheal Firlotte, Penticton’s water quality supervisor, in a news release.
“We can expect runoff and very dry conditions in May to July as stream flows are also ahead of normal.”

Stage 1 water restrictions have already been invoked, and are in place until Aug. 31.
During these restrictions, even-numbered street addresses can water their landscaping on even-numbered days and vice-versa for odd-numbered street addresses.
