The City of Quesnel has finalized an agreement with the union representing City workers.
Quesnel and CUPE 1050 announced they have agreed to a four-year deal on Monday, Nov. 2. The agreement will increase public employee salaries by over seven per cent by 2024.
“Council appreciates the collaborative efforts of the City’s management team and the union’s bargaining team, which led to this new collective agreement,” Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson said in a news release. “In this time of uncertainty, obtaining a four-year settlement provides both wage stability to our unionized workers and greater budgeting certainty for our ratepayers.”
City workers will receive a 1.5-per-cent raise in 2020 and two-per-cent increases over the next three years of the agreement.
“We are pleased with the settlement that we achieved, and we look forward to the next four years,” CUPE Local 1050 President Christi McKee-Poitras said.
The deal covers workers in public works and community services, City Hall and the RCMP detachment.
A separate negotiation for recreation staff has yet to be completed.
