Residents of Quesnel shouldn’t be surprised if their tap-water is discoloured over the next month.
The city’s utilities department will begin the annual water main and fire hydrant flushing program on Monday, Aug. 30.
Flushing will occur between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday at various locations around Quesnel until Sept. 20.
“Hydrant and water main flushing causes turbidity in the City’s water system,” a news release from the city reads. “Residents should expect, and be prepared for, discoloured water. If you experience this, leave a cold water tap running until the water returns to normal.”
Flushing will occur at Two and Three Mile Flat from Aug. 30 – Sept. 1, Downtown and North Quesnel from Sept. 1 – 3, South Quesnel from Sept. 6 – 8 and Johnston and Carson subdivisions from Sept. 8 – 10.
West Quesnel will be flushed from Sept. 13 – 20, with the properties east of Baker Creek set for Sept. 13 – 15, and the properties west of Baker Creek and the uplands from Sept. 16 – 20.
Residents looking for more information should contact the city’s utilities department at 250-992-6330.
