Revelstoke’s Building Inspection Services Department is once again short staffed.

At the moment the city is hiring two building inspectors as well as a Building Services Manager.

“As both of these are priority postings for our team, we have enlisted the support of an external recruitment firm to assist,” said a news release from the city.

Two of the city staff members who are leaving the team got jobs that will allow them to be closer to their families said Dawn Low, director of Corporate Communication.

Low added that building inspectors are in high demand in many municipalities right now as there are stringent requirements to become certified.

In the meantime the city has enlisted help from Bernie Zimmer, a Registered Building Official to assist with building inspections this week and Megan Mucignat from McElhanney Consulting to assist with planning applications this week.

“We have secured other options to help provide building inspection services in the short term including getting some hands-on help from another municipality and/or assistance from a private firm that offers building inspection and plan review services,” the news release said.

The city is in the process of reviewing applications but the exact start date for the positions is unknown.

Last June the city hired a contractor to do building inspections while they hired building inspectors.
