The City of Trail is pleased to announce it has received the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its 2016 annual financial report.
The award was established to encourage municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high-quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports. Receiving this award represents a significant accomplishment by a municipal government and its management.
“A few years ago, the City identified the need to enhance our annual report,” said David Perehudoff, the city’s Chief Administrative Officer. “We gradually worked on this with the target of advancing a radically changed report for the 2016 year-end. The report, once approved by Council, was submitted to GFOA for assessment and we are very happy that Trail has been recognized for this prestigious award.”
The report was judged by impartial Canadian Review Committee members to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure designed to clearly communicate the municipality’s financial story and to motivate potential users groups to read the report.
“This could not have been possible without the commitment and effort of the staff team who took this project on and dedicated a considerable amount of time to bring this together,” said Perehudoff.
“Staff is already getting ready for the next year’s report and we aspire to stay focused as part of making sure we continue to produce a quality report.”
