Less thanĀ 16 hours after the launch of the City Watch Program, municipal employees detected a break-in in progress.
The program kicked off at 10 a.m. April 29, and later that day, a District of Mission employee saw a suspect breaking into a downtown business. The employee called Mission RCMP who were able to interrupt the crime and recover the stolen property.
Mission CUPE workers have now been trained in observing and reporting suspicious or criminal activities while out doing their regular duties. Employees have two-ray radios in their vehicles, and when they see criminal or suspicious activity, they call their dispatcher on a priority basis and the call gets transferred to the RCMP.
