Classic car fans are gathering at Lions Park today for the annual car show hosted by the Uptown Rutland Business Association.
Called Cruisin’ The Park, more than 75 cars are being displayed by their owners at the event, which also includes live music, a food concession and information booths set up by various local non profit community services groups.
Laurel D’Andrea, executive director of URBA, said the appearance of rain last night added to the stress of organizing the car show, but the weather today has turned out perfect.
“The car show guys love coming here because of the park setting. There is shade, others things are going on as part of the event, they each get a free lunch and there are various raffle prize draws they are eligible to win,” D’Andrea said.
“We did the raffle thing a bit different this year offering gift certificates to local businesses to encourage them to visit the local businesses like Rexall, Olympia and Save-On that help make this event possible.”
Cruisin’ The Park is actually a new name from the previous moniker, Rutland Classic Car Show, aligned with the title sponsor Kal Tire coming on board this year.
Besdies URBA members and Kal Tire, D’Andrea said members of the Okanagan Vintage Car Club are also instrumental in helping with the car set-up and operating the concession stand.
Cruisin’ The Park will continue today until 3 p.m. Lions Park is located a block north of Highway 33 behind the Plaza 33 shopping centre.
