The Clearwater and District Food Bank received a donation from a tree-planting group that’s been operating locally this year.
Dynamic Reforestation out of Williams Lake has a tree planting camp near Vavenby and donated $1,400 to the food bank in light of International Hunger Day, which took place last week.
“As part of International Hunger Day our staff of 270 people raised $4,200 and then we matched it so it’s a total contribution of $8,400 and because we work a bit in your community we spread that money around,” said Miles Sanoy, president of Dynamic Reforestation.
“We’re very fortunate to go back to work in the tree planting industry. I know there’s a lot of skepticism from local communities about bringing workers in from across the country, so we appreciate the opportunity to go to work.”
Sanoy noted the tree planting camps have been fully isolated for more than 28 days, with dedicated shoppers going into towns for shopping needs, and there have been no cases of COVID-19 among the planters.
“We just want to bring that message to locals as well,” he said.
The tree planters will be working in the area for about two more months and the company plans to plant a total of 19 million trees this year.
Clearwater and District Food Bank chair, Harry James, expressed his gratitude for the donation.
“We think it’s great. We appreciated the goodwill they present to us and the fact that they’re helping the community,” James said.
“It will be used for good purposes and any donation is always worthwhile.”
