Clearwater RCMP responded to 37 calls for service over this past week. A few of the more interesting are highlighted herein:
April 11
At 7:12 p.m. a 40-year-old local woman called the Clearwater RCMP to report that she had just been let out of cells in Kamloops, and had asked her neighbour to board up her front door in the 900 block Old North Thompson Highway in Blackpool BC, as it does not lock properly.
The neighbour advised that when she got to the residence and started screwing a board across the front door, another female came to the front door, from inside, asking to get out. The neighbour stated that she was alarmed by this other woman’s presence at the door as she was not supposed to be inside.
The neighbour also said she saw the woman inside going through the owner’s purse, which was left on the kitchen counter.
Police arrived and saw a board screwed across the front door. The neighbour said when confronting the woman inside, she had excuses for being in the residence, which did not add up as to why she was inside and then got in the truck with her husband, and drove extremely fast out the driveway.
The residence is well known to the investigator and no new damage was observed. Nothing yet confirmed stolen however the investigation is ongoing.
April 12
At approximately 6:30 p.m. Clearwater RCMP were making patrols in the shopping center located at 365 Murtle Rd. Police saw a green GMC Sierra pickup truck with Alberta plates parked at the Tim Hortons, occupied by three males and one female.
Police interacted with the driver, a 16-year-old male, identified by his Alberta Driver’s Licence, who looked to be impaired by cannabis.
The 17-year-old male passenger and registered owner told police they were from Alberta and just out this way on a quick trip. Police observed the other two passengers avoiding interaction with them.
When asked to identify themselves the oldest, a 20-year-old man, provided ID, while the 17-year-old female provided her name and date of birth. Police checks were run on all.
The 20-year-old male and the female were currently on conditions not to have any contact, while the 17-year-old male had to remain in Alberta only. All occupants reside in Alberta. The 20-year-old and the female were both arrested for breach, chartered, warned and transported back to cells.
The female contacted her mother, who arranged a ride for her in the morning, to be taken back to Alberta. The 20-year-old and the female were released in morning with court dates in June.
April 12
At 12:57 p.m. Clearwater RCMP received a call from a 19-year-old Kamloops resident reporting a motor vehicle incident involving a 2018 black Ford F-150 that went off road approximately five km north of Little Fort on Highway 5. The complainant said there didn’t appear to be any injuries and that the vehicle was not blocking the highway.
Police dispatch later advised there was a second caller reporting the same black truck, except added there was welding equipment in the back and that it smelled like alcohol.
Police arrived and located the 51-year-old driver, from Vancouver, standing next to the vehicle, which was high centered in the ditch. He said a deer jumped out in front of him and he swerved to miss it and spun into the ditch.
No sign of alcohol noted in or around the vehicle, however, the driver admitted to having a couple of drinks hours prior. Police detected the odour of liquor, but did not suspect the impairment level enough for a criminal code investigation.
Based on the information provided by the driver, police prohibited him from driving for 24 hours. The vehicle was also impounded for 24 hours.
