Clearwater RCMP responded to 39 calls for service over this past week. A few of the more interesting ones are highlighted below:

Sept. 18

Clearwater RCMP were told of a break and enter to the Canada Post building in Avola Frontage Rd.

An Avola woman called to report some time overnight unknown suspect(s) kicked in the door and rummaged through the small office; the complainant was unsure what had been taken, but the money was still on site.

Locks from some of the Canada Post mail boxes outside were cut and mail was removed. Police attended to the scene and spoke with the complainant.

This rural post office is in a very old small building with an outer door. The suspects pushed open the outside door breaking the door jamb. The suspects then entered through the next door leading to a smaller office.

This post office is only open for 30 minutes each day. An employee was in the office the day prior and there was no damage. An inventory on the post office will be done to see if anything is missing. Police noted three to five locks were cut off some of the mailboxes located across the street from the post office. It appears bolt cutter were used. Investigation is ongoing.

Sept. 20

A 49 year old Williams Lake woman reported hearing shots fired near the Otter Creek FSR in Avola, BC. She provided police with a detailed description of the place in which she was staying.

Police arrived and spoke with the complainant, who advised there had been multiple shots during the evening and they sounded like they were coming from another residence, which is roughly 200m away. They didn’t see who was shooting. Police spoke with the nearby residents by phone and were told that they had wolves in the area and had fired warning shots to scare them off.

The following day the complainant called to report they heard four or five more shots that sounded close by to their location. Police called and spoke to the complainant advising her it’s a common hunting area.

She was convinced it was neighbours shooting again. After some discussion, the complainant said they would like to leave the area, but were concerned for themselves and their grandson who was with them.

Police said they’d go to their location and escort them out of the area.

While on route to the residence, police found two hunters near this location.

They said they shot a wolf about one km from the area. Police went to the specific location, updated the complainant about the hunters then escorted them from the property.

She was grateful for the assistance provided by RCMP.

Sept. 23

At 6:26 a.m., Clearwater RCMP received an anonymous report of a possible domestic in a room at a local hotel, located in the 400 block of Highway 5, in Clearwater.

The caller reported hearing a woman screaming, other loud noises, and a man talking. Police responded immediately and found a woman inside the hotel room. Her left eye was bruised and there were abrasions starting to show up around her neck as well.

There was no other person inside the room though there was man’s clothing and shoes in the room. The woman refused to give any information about her roommate/boyfriend, beyond that he was from Vancouver, and he had not assaulted her.

She said they’d had an argument fueled by alcohol, regarding jealousy. Her boyfriend then decided to leave. She didn’t want him to and so propped herself against the bed and door, holding the door closed; however, he managed to get out anyway.

Patrols in the area for the man couldn’t find him.

Police continue to investigate this incident.
