Clearwater RCMP responded to 55 calls for service over this past week. A few of the more interesting ones are highlighted below:
Oct. 2
At 12:10 p.m. a 59 year-old Saskatoon man called the RCMP to report a single vehicle roll over on Highway 5, five km north of Avola, B.C. The vehicle rolled and was now stuck in the south bound ditch, not impeding traffic.
The vehicle was described as a blue Toyota Tacoma out of Alberta. No injuries were reported so BC Ambulance was not required.
Clearwater RCMP attended, noting that roads were wet and slushy with some sleet at the time of arrival. The female driver and male passenger were south bound from Jasper, heading to Vancouver Island, when they came around a corner at slow speed, hit slush and went off road right to avoid a collision.
One roll was completed. Kayaks mounted on the truck were also damaged. The driver arranged a tow to Kamloops to rent another vehicle. The tow could not attend until later on, so police assisted with removing contents and transported the occupants to Clearwater to await vehicle tow.
En route the driver advised her neck was getting sore so police transported both to the Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital for a routine check-up.
No charges laid or violation tickets issued.
Oct. 3
A local female called to report a man in the trees on the side of the Old North Thompson Highway, who had a jug of gasoline and was lighting fires. A dark pickup truck was parked along the road in the area.
Police attended to the area and spoke with the man in the woods who advised that he owned the property and is doing clean up to prepare the property for sale.
The property owner advised that the gasoline was for his chainsaw (not the fire) he was using to clear the many windfall trees on the property he has listed with a local realtor. He has owned the property for about 10 years and has been trying to sell it for the past year.
Oct. 5
At 1:26 p.m., A Mcbride man reported a motor vehicle incident in which a pedestrian was struck in the 300 block of Murtle Cr, Clearwater, BC.
Clearwater RCMP attended and found BC Ambulance already on scene. Police spoke with the pedestrian, a local woman, who said she had been crossing the intersection out of the parking lot, looking straight ahead when she was struck by the vehicle.
Police then spoke with driver, also a local woman, who said she was coming out of the parking lot, had seen the pedestrian, looked down, made her left hand corner, then saw in the rear view mirror that the pedestrian was laying on the ground.
Police did not observe any signs of impairment. The roadway was flat, dry and visibility was good. Police obtained photos of the scene and broken mirror on the driver’s blue 2014 Kia. The pedestrian was transported to hospital where she was later released with bumps and bruises.
Police issued the driver a violation ticket for Failing to Yield to a Pedestrian.
Oct. 7
At 7:00 p.m. Clearwater RCMP received complaints of an explosion noise near Brookfield Rd. in Clearwater. They described hearing an explosion that rattled the windows of their homes. After speaking with multiple neighbours, all directions pointed to the area of Gill Creek Rd.
Police had previous calls to a disturbance in this area where a local male was shooting at explosive targets. Police attended to the area and spoke with a property owner who had numerous people camping over for Thanksgiving weekend.
People were around an outdoor fire and in the garage listening to music. The property owner was uncertain of where the explosion had occurred, stating that he thought the noise had come from the power lines, or possibly hunters.
Police monitored the area for safety; however, no further noises were heard.
No evidence to support further investigation.
