This excited young lady came to Clearwater’s Rotary meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 8. “Tomorrow I leave,” she said, somewhat breathlessly.
Juniper Wadlegger is this year’s outward bound Rotary Exchange student.
“I cannot believe I will soon be in Sao Paulo, Brazil!”
Here Juniper will attend school where the winter term has already begun.
“Their school year is the same as the calendar year,” she added.
“I have started learning Portuguese on-line.”
She was asked by Rotary members about the array of pins on her classic Canadian-red blazer.
“I have attended some district events for Rotary Exchange students already; this includes both sides of the border because Clearwater is in a district that includes parts of BC and Washington State.”
Local Rotary president, Margot Venema, added one more pin to her collection – showing both the Canadian and US flags.
“Stay in touch,” Rotarians of Clearwater’s club begged.
“It will be a whole year before we see you!”
And the Clearwater Rotary Club members are confident she will. In alternate years, the club sponsors an incoming and outward bound student from all points of the globe.
Another Clearwater Rotary Event of the moment worth a mention is the fact this is the 25th year the group has been in existence.
In celebration, and as a fundraiser for both the club and Wells Gray Search and Rescue, a raffle is on the go. Prizes include a four-wheeler, deluxe barbecue, and an assortment of jewellery.
Tickets cost $20 with a maximum of 1,500 being sold. The raffle will be drawn at the Anniversary Gala Dinner to be held on October 13, 2018 at the Dutch Lake Community Centre.
