Driver able to walk away after truck leaves highway

  • Oct. 25, 2018 12:00 a.m.

A driver escaped serious injury after his truck left Highway 1 in Chilliwack and smashed into a utility pole.

The single vehicle accident occurred just before 2 p.m. in the westbound lane, west of the Lickman Road overpass.

The vehicle crashed through a chain-link fence before hitting the pole, which supported communication lines.

The impact of the crash snapped off the top of the pole and BC Hydro crews had to be called in to de-energize the nearby power lines before the truck could be recovered.

The driver was able to walk away from the crash.
