There was nothing unusual about Tuesday morning for Cloverdale’s Jen Temple – until she stopped for gas.

“I saw a homeless man eating out of the garbage at the gas station” she posted on her Facebook page.

Temple says she went inside the 7-Eleven on Fraser Highway and 160th Street and bought the man a sandwich.

Another customer saw what was happening and also went inside and bought the man some food and a hot coffee.

“The man looked at me and said, ‘I don’t have any money for this,’” she said, adding she told the man it was a gift.

“A tear rolled down his cheek and he said, ‘thank you’ and gave me a smile,” said Temple, asset manager at Cloverdale’s Hillcrest Village Shopping Centre.

Temple told the Now she hopes the story will inspire other small acts of kindness.

“It only takes one kind gesture to make someone feel special,” she said.

“Even if just for one moment.”
