CN signal boxes shot

Information sought after trains forced to stop by Kitwanga signal boxes being shot up.

The public is being asked to contact New Hazelton RCMP or CrimeStoppers with any information on five CN signals boxes being damaged in the Gitwangak (Kitwanga) area.

On Oct. 5 and reported on the 7th, two signal boxes were damaged by firearms ranging from .22 calibre to high calibre rifles and shot guns. The boxes sent out a signal there was damage at 5:51 p.m. on Oct. 5.

The same types of firearms were used Oct. 19 when three signal boxes were shot at. The box sent out a signal to CN that it was damaged at 12:34 a.m.

The damage in the area caused several trains to cease operations and stop for safety concerns both times.
