Work has begun on the first phase of the redevelopment of the College Inn site in Qualicum Beach.

Pomeroy Restoration and Construction Ltd. spokesperson Ainsley Foster said work began on phase one of the three-phase project Monday.

“We’re really excited,” Foster said. “It’s been a long time coming.”

The first phase, she said, will involve the construction of 20 suites and will include the restoration of the historic Qualicum College building.

“We have a 14 to 16-month buildout on the first phase,” she said. “We’ve sold 10 suites already.”

That sales success is crucial, she noted, as the timing for construction of both the second and third phases will be largely determined by sales.

The second stage, she said, will involve the construction of 12 suites, while the third phase will involve an additional eight.

Foster said the company plans to hold an open house in the first week of May.
