Commercial fisherman pleads guilty to Fisheries Act violation

After pleading guilty to a violation of the Fisheries Act, a Prince Rupert commercial fishermen was fined and ordered to forfeit his landed catch.

Michael Bullock plead guilty in Prince Rupert Provincial Court to the violation and was fined $3,000 and ordered to forfeit his landed catch of chinook salmon that was valued at $10,791.

While skippering the vessel HOPEFULL on June 26, Bullock contravened the conditions of his licence by failing to have his catch validated by an observer when off-loading from the Area F troll fishery.

Catch validation is mandatory in this fishery and has to be performed dockside by a service provider approved by Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
